The Waking Titan

Been busy with new content, hoping to write a new adventure for my campaign setting. This adventure will start in the City-State of Umar.
And for that cause I have created a highly detailed map fo this city.

For this I have created this premise the to bring the party together and the general plot line.

New Maps

After some time, and some discussion, I have made some changes to the map op Ianna and Terria, that will impact the Twin Worlds slightly.
The original though behind the World of Ianna, where island kingdoms, where the main mode of transportation would be by boat of with the aid of magic. Whereas Terria would be on massive landmass, dotted by city-states and would be the beacons of light within the world. These changes to the maps should bring focus back to these original ideas.

This doesn’t means that the kingdoms, city-states and landmasses are gone, the might reappear in later publishings.

Shadowspirit

With a loud snap the twig breaks under my left foot.

Screaming the creature turns around in front of me. I feels his gaze upon me although it’s face isn’t visible. It makes my hair stand up on the back of my neck. Goose bumps appear on my bare arms as the invisible gaze pierces my soul and despite the balmy spring-night I’m shivering.

The shadowspirit shakes its head. As long it stand still its body fades away in the darkness between the trees only to become visible as its moves. As a shadow between shadows. On my guard I tighten my grip on the hilt of my sword. The point of my unwieldy, two-handed weapon points towards the ground. Hoping that my clumsy posture and burdensome sword-strikes will mislead my opponents, but this isn’t an ordinary opponent. It will not underestimate me. It underestimates nobody.

The shadowspirit one of the creatures Xuno faces during her journeys throughout the lands of Ianna and Terria. As I’m reading through Xuno will try to put the enemies Xuno faces into stat bloks.

Xuno has recently been release and is available in any (online) bookstore or the Celtica’s webshop and is written by my wife Maite Donker.

Welcome to Vigilton

The village of Vigilton stood guard over an site of historic importance  for centuries. Although the meaning of it’s ritual is slowly been forgotten with the passage of time. This site simply called “the Vigil” represents a bond of trust between mortals and primordials when they still walked the face of Ianna.

Vigilton, is an new adventuring site I have created for use whit the Imarand campaign setting, the players start out as locals taking on the mantel of local militia tasked to protect the village and the site called the vigil. But all will go horrible wrong  as goblins discover the place and break the seals of this ancient tomb.

The village of Vigilton is an rural framing town on the edges of the Durnmon Kingdom, depending much on trading their goods in the nearby city Passhaven. Vigilton does, get its fair share of adventurers using the village as base camp before heading out into the mountains.

Imarand Races Artwork

Over the last couple of months I have been working with the amazing artist Kim van Deun to bring some live too the various races of the World of Imarand. Has been a wish from the start to bring the Imarand Campaign setting to life with artwork, and why not start the the races the pretty much define the setting.

We got the Silvain, the guard and protect the life giving tree, and the goddess Iyassia, the Siliban cursed and neither living nor undead, the Madilar skilled merchants and traders, but very deceptive with their ability the change appearance. The Beastmen of the various Sha tribes, and the former slaves to the dragon who have fought for the hard earned freedom the Dragonkin

Starstone Monsters

Recently I watched the Evolution movie again, and it gave me an idea for a monster and encounter, that I’m currently incorporating into a new adventure, that goes further the court of the dryad queen (L3-T8) ends.

For simplicity the template and monster I have created isn’t exactly the same, but it does bring the idea into the game. And it would make a good recurring monster. The Starstone Evoled creature template that works well on any animal, fey, humanoid, magical beast, plant or vermin creature. While the Starstone Ooze, is a little menace that keeps the players on their toes, when they are eradicating these pests.

CREATING A STARSTONE EVOLVED CREATURE

A “Starstone Evolved” is an inherited template that can be added to any creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature). Most starstone evolved creatures are based upon animals, fey, humanoids, magical beasts, plants or vermin. A starstone evolved uses the base creature’s statistics and abilities except as noted here.

CR: Same as the base creature +1.
Alignment: Always Neutral.
Hit Points: A starstone evolved creature gains +2 hp per HD.
Defensive Abilities: A starstone evolved creature has immunity to fire and slashing damage, gains a weakness to cold and the following defensive abilities. But losses the any other elemental resistances it might have.

Reactive Regeneration (Ex): Whenever hit by an attack that deal fire or slashing damage, it regerates 5 hit points and gains 1 evolution point.

Guild Advancement

Got the question from my players “Can we advance in a guild we are part of?”, well with these boons using Fame Point the player can advance in any guild gaining boons and even becoming guildleader. This could be a blacksmiths guild, trader’s guild, thieves’ guild of even and organization like the Seekers of Old.

This will be the first set-up for and guild advancement system within the game.

Initiate (1 FP): You are a full-fledged member of the guild, whenever you are within a city that houses a guild hall of guildhouse you get free lodging, stabling and food.

Member (2 FP): Obtains membership in a regional guild, providing a player character with a 10% discount on a certain kind of goods associated with your guild. At the GM’s discretion.
Requirement: Initiate Boon

Working On… Rituals

Rituals

Rituals or incantations, depending on the source you read, are meant to give players new options to deal with problems outside of combat. Long casting times, spell components and high personal costs are trademarks of a ritual, which prevent the player from using them often.

Personally, I like rituals. They are like a cooking recipe: you gather the ingredients, prepare the food and start cooking. And the best part is you don’t need to be a spellcaster to be able to cast a ritual, you just need to have the appropriate skill. As a GM, this give the commoners and non-spellcasters of my worlds the ability to use spells in their daily lives. It gives evil NPC’s a chance to be preparing a ritual that will change the world, while the players try to interrupt it. It can even be turned into a quest, like making the players look for rare ingredients to perform a ritual to save a party member.

Rituals make adventuring easier and give NPC’s access to magical powers. Rituals should therefore be unique spells with a specific function or purpose and with that in mind I’ve started designing my own rituals. A ritual to disenchant or enchant magic items is a good example of a ritual that can make life a lot easier for a party. My veil gate and solar travel rituals give the players options to travel to other places that might be impossible for them to reach otherwise. Other rituals, like the art of war, hellfire assault and genesis are excellent rituals for villains to use in their evil schemes and in the hands of commoners some rituals can be used to protect themselves (Hidden Veil, Create Dwealmor) or as a means of trade (Enchant Magic Item).

Like the rituals in many other sources, my rituals come at a cost: often a ritual requires valuable items or even a part of the caster’s soul in the form of an xp cost. It might also leave the caster weakened or exhausted after finishing the ritual. Despite all that, the biggest cost is often paid when a ritual fails: rituals can suddenly have the opposite effect, give false information or can even lead to the death of the caster.

Get some Character

Made a new addition to the wiki, this time many wonderful traits for the heroes of Imarand have been added. In addition to that all resent updates have been uploaded in the new dataset for PCGen.
The dataset can be found on the downloads page of by clicking here.

And you are?

So….., time to break the silent and give you guys a update on what is happening.
Fleshed out some noteworthy people on the face of the worlds and organizations that the players can talk to and interact with.

And did some good work on functionally on the website, build event and bounty board for use with the campaign. Imported YouTube videos and blog to my DokuWiki as you probably have noticed.

Also created 2 new house rule I’m happy to have, Horror and Taints, both work together to give the player a sense of danger and morality with the campaign. And while I with my party group are still play testing it gives some nice role-playing opportunities for the players.

Still I’m got the feeling I’m missing something within my world, an story or lore element that makes the campaign more unique, vibrant and alive. Got and idea, drop me a line, or two, you know where to find me.
